TOWN OF MASSENA, New York (WWNY) - Anglers from across the country are on the St. Lawrence River in hopes of reeling in a $100,000 prize. The Major League Fishing Bass Pro Tour kicked off in Massena Tuesday morning. Boats launched at 7:30 a.m. and the 78 people competing have 8 hours each day on the water.

Fishing pro Scott Suggs says fishing on the St. Lawrence can be challenging because of the current of the water.

“Sometimes it can be hard to fish. Sometimes it can be great but it’s sure a different experience when it comes to the fishing part. But as far as the people and the location, everything is outstanding,” he said.

The tournament is going on at the Massena Intake through Sunday.
